Discover the Value of Hands-on Learning as an Auto Mechanic: A Discussion With Fares Mostafa

Are you considering a career as an auto mechanic and wondering how to get started? At the Automotive Training Centre (ATC) in Toronto, we believe that hands-on learning is the key to success in the automotive field. We had the privilege of discussing the importance of this approach with Fares Mostafa, an ATC student who followed his passion for cars thanks to the practical training we offer.

Fares’ love of the auto mechanic field was evident during our discussion. When describing his path to ATC, he recalls: “I’ve always loved working on my cars, working on my buddies’ cars, diagnosing stuff myself, and then going to the mechanic to see if my diagnosis is proper.” One day, he went to his local auto mechanic and noticed ATC certifications all over the wall. This prompted Fares to start his journey with ATC. Keep reading to discover why he stands by his decision.

The Importance of Hands-on Learning in Auto Mechanic Training

In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving automotive industry, theoretical knowledge alone is insufficient. Hands-on learning is crucial for anyone looking to excel as an auto mechanic. At ATC Toronto, we prioritize practical training to ensure our students are well-prepared for the challenges they will face in the real world. From the first day, students are immersed in a learning environment that combines classroom instruction with extensive hands-on practice.

Three months into our auto mechanic program, Fares has realized the value of hands-on learning. “I’m a visual learner,” he says. “I like to get busy with my hands, seeing what I’m doing to learn it.” Many students who are drawn to the auto mechanic field can relate. For this reason, the practical application of our program builds confidence and competence.

How ATC Toronto Prepares Students for Success

ATC auto mechanic school provides comprehensive, hands-on instruction. Our curriculum is carefully crafted to ensure that students learn the theory behind automotive technology while applying that knowledge in a practical setting.

The program begins with an introduction to the automotive industry and shop safety, ensuring students are familiar with essential tools, equipment, and safety protocols. It then covers preventive maintenance and service of wheels, tires, hubs, bearings, and hydraulic brake systems, providing a strong foundation in core automotive skills.

As students progress, they delve into advanced topics like suspension, steering, wheel alignment, welding, and electrical systems diagnostics, culminating in a comprehensive understanding of gasoline engines, lubrication, cooling, ignition, fuel injection, emissions, and computer control systems.

This extensive hands-on experience is what sets ATC graduates apart from their peers. “You can stay in class and do theory all day. You’ll learn what it is and what it does, but you’ll never know how to do it in real life.”

One of the standout features of ATC Toronto’s training program is the quality of our instructors. Our faculty comprises seasoned professionals who bring industry experience to the classroom. Fares says: “These instructors have been in the field for a while… They’ve seen some things… Things that I wouldn’t even think of.” He particularly appreciated the insights he gained from our instructor, Derrick. With the guidance of our expert teachers, students are exposed to real-world scenarios and challenges that prepare them for what they will encounter in their careers.

At the end of our discussion, Fares shared his career goal of owning his shop one day. With his talent, passion, and desire to learn, we’re certain that his dreams are just around the corner.
