In Discussion With Auto Mechanic Student Tyler Arena: Creating Confident Professionals
With expert instructors guiding students through every step and a curriculum emphasizing practical learning, ATC Cambridge is shaping the next generation of skilled automotive professionals.
We recently had the opportunity to speak with Tyler Arena, one of the talented students at ATC Cambridge, about his journey in the auto mechanic training program.
Tyler shared valuable insights into his experience, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning, the expertise of ATC’s instructors, and how the program prepares him to thrive in the automotive industry.
Discovering a Passion for Automotive
Interestingly, Tyler’s journey into the automotive field was not straightforward. “At first, no,” Tyler shared when asked if he had always been passionate about mechanics. “I really wanted to be an actor at first, but realizing how hard that was going to be, it wasn’t going to happen.”
Even though becoming an actor didn’t pan out, Tyler’s natural interest in working with his hands drew him to the auto mechanic field. “When I was a kid, I was always helping my dad fix a lawnmower or something like that,” he explained. This early exposure to repairs motivated him to explore mechanics further, eventually leading him to ATC.
Hands-on Learning at ATC Cambridge
Tyler didn’t take long to realize that ATC was the perfect match for his preferred learning style. For Tyler, the auto mechanic hands-on training model at ATC Cambridge has made all the difference, and his experience has been nothing short of transformative.
“I need to be hands-on,” Tyler explains. “I struggle with the computer stuff, but honestly, here with the computer stuff, it’s so simple and straightforward that it makes, you know, time goes by. In class, it’s all hands-on. You’re tearing things apart right down to the bone.”
He believes this practical approach is essential to becoming a well-rounded auto mechanic. “If you’re not getting hands-on, like that, I don’t feel like you’re going to be learning enough… They make you tear apart racks, steering racks, and everything like that. They make you put tires on and take tires off, rims and everything.”
This immersive, practical experience ensures that students are familiar with the basics and build advanced skills—something Tyler feels is vital for anyone hoping to open their shop or work in dealerships.
Learning From Auto Mechanic Industry Experts
Tyler was particularly impressed with the expertise of ATC’s instructors, who bring years of industry experience into the classroom. “These teachers here, they’ve been in this automotive field for years and years, so they know what they’re talking about,” he explained.
This depth of experience gives students confidence that they are receiving high-quality auto mechanic training. “They teach students everything—from in-depth engines to wheel alignments to everything,” Tyler said. “My experience here in just a couple of months is great. I’m loving it.”
Building a Foundation for Future Success
Tyler’s experience at ATC Cambridge has equipped him with practical skills and fueled his confidence in his ability to excel in the automotive industry. From working on engines to mastering tire alignments, Tyler is gaining the knowledge and hands-on expertise he needs to thrive in his career. Looking ahead, he aims to gather more experience at a luxury dealership before eventually opening his shop.
