Why Grads of Auto Mechanic Schools Are Thrilled About the 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1

auto mechanic careers

There is no doubt that when it comes to crafting an outrageously fast supercar with a ton of attitude, Chevrolet often delivers. The new 2019 Corvette ZR1 uses some of the best parts from previous iterations, as well as from the Zo6, and comes standard with a 7-speed manual transmission, and an optional $1,725 8-speed automatic. Chevrolet really ups the ante in terms of speed and performance with the 2019 Corvette ZR1, with a powerful and sophisticated engine producing an incredible amount of horsepower, and a pretty sweet supercharger. Oh, and did we mention it shoots fire out of its exhaust pipe?

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 Will Impress Mechanics Who Value Speed

Chevy was out to make a Corvette that could be more powerful than the Zo6, and to a degree it succeeded. The 2019 iteration of the Corvette ZR1 houses an unbelievably strong and hand assembled LT5 small block, 6.2-liter V8 engine, with port and direct fuel injection. This ZR1 also features a 2.7-liter Eton supercharger which increases airflow by 52 per cent. Superchargers are essentially air compressors which draw power from a belt or gear connected to the crankshaft, and are meant to increase air density and pressure, which in turn allows for more engine power by helping to burn fuel more quickly.

The 2019 ZR1 currently has 755 horsepower with 715 lb-ft of torque, which is well above the Zo6’s 605 hp. This car also clocks in with a top speed of 334 km/h as a convertible, and at 341 km/h with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Grads of auto mechanic schools know that high speed may cause temperature problems for the engine. Chevrolet compensates by adding about 13 heat exchangers, and designing the hood to let in 40 per cent more air for cooling purposes.

Grads of Auto Mechanic Schools Will Appreciate the 2019 ZR1’s Downforce Capabilities

Whenever turning corners at high speeds, it’s important to have a vehicle that can produce enough downforce to stick to the track. Chevrolet succeeds in doing so by making the 2019 Corvette ZR1 more aerodynamic, adding an underwing, airfoil, and a sharp front splitter. These additions are meant to produce downforce by increasing aerodynamic drag. Some sources have suggested that the 2019 ZR1’s vented hood may also serve the dual purpose of reducing aerodynamic drag.

Then there is the $2,995 ZTK Track Performance Package that many drivers will be interested in. The ZTK package helps add even more downforce to the 2019 Corvette ZR1 by giving it a bigger chassis mounted rear wing, removable carbon fibre end caps for the splitter, and magnetorheological dampers, just to name a few of its additions. The whole package produces a combined total of 950 pounds of downforce—even if the vehicle is travelling at top speeds.

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 Has Reliable Traction and Stopping Power

For professionals with auto mechanic careers who love working on brakes, it might be exciting to know that the 2019 Corvette ZR1 comes standard with some pretty sweet Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. The whole brakes package comes with 15.5-inch brake discs in the front and 15.3 inches on the rear. In addition, because they’re carbon ceramic, they’re lighter as well as heat resistant for up to 1000 degrees Celsius, making them last about 60 times longer than their metallic counterparts.
