Collision Estimators Know Why It's Important to Repair a Damaged Windshield as Soon as Possible
Some car owners will put off repairing a crack or chip in their car’s windshield because it seems like an inconvenience. However, many of them don’t realize that having their car’s windshield repaired can be quite simple and that ignoring the problem can actually end up causing much more of an inconvenience.
Collision estimators estimate car damage and help car owners get the repairs they need. Professional estimators are well aware of the many benefits that come with repairing a damaged windshield right away, instead of leaving the damage to worsen or put the driver in an unsafe situation.
If you’re considering becoming a collision estimator, read on to learn more about why repairing windshields as soon as possible is important.
Collision Estimators Know Fixing a Damaged Windshield Early Can Prevent an Expensive Replacement
To many car owners, a cracked windshield may seem like a minor vehicle problem, especially after an accident. However, putting off repairing a damaged windshield could have costly consequences. The longer an owner drives their car without repairing the damage, the more likely it is to spread.
Once a crack spreads and gets too big, it may become impossible to repair, meaning that instead of a fairly inexpensive, simple repair, the entire windshield might have to be replaced. Because of this, once you become an auto body estimator, you should always recommend to your clients that they have their windshields repaired as quickly as possible.
Certain Provinces May Fine Drivers for Damaged Windshields
Because safe driving requires a clear line of sight, certain Canadian provinces issue tickets to drivers whose windshields have cracks or chips that are deemed to block their field of vision. Depending on the amount of damage, tickets can get quite expensive!
After auto body estimator training, if you have a client who is wary of spending the money needed to repair their vehicle’s windshield, gently advise them that not only is the damage dangerous, but they may be issued a ticket if the damage is deemed to affect their ability to see the road.
Collision Estimators Know Windshields Repaired Early Have Better Results
The longer a damaged windshield is left alone and exposed to the elements, the worse the repair results may be. If a crack is left untouched, dirt, windshield wiper fluid, moisture, and other substances can get inside and discolour it. This means that when the crack is finally repaired it won’t have an even finish, and the repaired area is more likely to stand out. This could end up being a major eye sore, especially for owners who take pride in their car’s appearance.
Collision Estimators Know Driving with a Broken Windshield Is Unsafe
Driving with a cracked or damaged windshield can have dangerous consequences. Depending on where the damage is on the windshield, it could impede a driver’s ability to see the road clearly. In addition, driving over a large bump or pothole could cause the crack to suddenly spread across the windshield.
The windshield also plays an important role in supporting a vehicle’s structural integrity. A damaged windshield is less structurally sound than a repaired one. Therefore, if a driver was to get in another accident with a damaged windshield, it could completely shatter and cause the roof of the vehicle to collapse. By making sure that clients get their windshields repaired early, you can help them avoid a potentially dangerous situation.
