Having been a Formula One champion on four different occasions, Alain Prost sits in second place among the racers with the most F1 titles in history. The famous French driver also racked up 51 total Grand Prix victories, the most by any driver until Michael Schumacher surpassed this total in 2001.

Known as “The Professor” for his intellectual, calculating racing methods, Prost was also known for winning two of his F1 championships back to back (1985 and 1986), as well as his rivalry with the late Ayrton Senna.

Dale Earnhardt: The Intimidator Who Left Us Too Soon

Students in auto service programs may well know who this driver was, even if they’ve never followed NASCAR. One of the most famous drivers in NASCAR history, Dale Earnhardt essentially defined the sport during his time behind the wheel.

Having begun his career in 1975, the driver known as “The Intimidator” would go on to win 76 Winston Cup Races – most famously, the 1998 Daytona 500 – and seven Winston Cup Championships.

Although Earnhardt would be tragicallykilled in a racing accident in 2001, his legacy endures as a driver who helped make NASCAR a big-ticket sport.

Mario Andretti: A Must-Know for Students in Auto Service Programs

Mario Andretti conquered both NASCAR and Formula One, and everything in between.This Italian-American driver made a name for himself not just for his greatness on the track, but also his versatility.

In a career that spanned nearly 30 years, Andretti won four IndyCar titles and the 1978 F1 World Championship. He also holds the distinction of being the only driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship, the Daytona 500, and the Indy 500, while also being only one of two drivers to capture victories in NASCAR, F1, IndyCar, and the World Sportscar Championship. He remains the most recent American to win a Formula One race, having won the Dutch Grand Prix in 1978.

Michael Schumacher: The Seven-Time King of Formula One

One of the most decorated F1 drivers of the modern era, Michael Schumacher has many accolades under his belt. The retired German driver is a seven-time Formula One world champion, and holds multiple records including fastest laps (77), most race victories (91), most races won during one season (13), and most championships – including five he won consecutively.

Of course, as many auto service technician course students will also know, Schumacher suffered a serious brain injury after a skiing accident in 2013.He was in a coma for seven months and now requires a wheelchair.However, friends have recently been spoke positively about the progress of his recovery.
