Career Outlook
The Automotive Industry is one of the largest, most profitable industries in the world.
This industry is widely seen as one of the most integrated industries in North America. Cross border trade in automotive products in North America have increased considerably in the last decade from $70.9 billion dollars in 1993 to $158.7 billion dollars in 2003.
However, starting in 2000 Japanese and European auto assemblers received the same treatment as North American manufactures as a result of Canada being forced by the World Trade Organization (WTO) to remove the Auto Pact (1965) of importing vehicles under preferential tariffs granted to the BIG 3 (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors). The gate has opened for globalization of the industry.
These factors coupled with vehicle affordability being at an all time high due to increased consumer earning power, has paved the way for booming automotive sales. Not only do Automotive Sales Professionals have an excellent variety of quality products to sell, they also have a willing and able consumer.
Analysis of the growth requirements in Canada have indicated that the Sales and Service sectors are the leaders in new job creation, requiring 31% of all new jobs created.
