Prep Test for Tech (PTT)

Effective preparation for apprentices looking to become journeymen

To become a journeyman, all apprentices need to pass CPA Montréal’s professional qualification exam. This exam, which includes both written and practical components, determines whether apprentice technicians are able to work independently and progress to the next level of their career. It covers the four main aspects of the automobile:

  • Power Train
  • Internal Combustion Engines
  • Electricity and Supply System
  • Brakes

Taking this exam can be a challenging and even stressful experience, especially since those who fail often need to wait a year before trying again. It’s why exam preparation is so important to success.

The Prep Test for Tech (PTT) program offers in-depth and flexible exam preparation for mechanic apprentices. Through this 64-hour course, apprentices can sharpen their skills with regards to each module covered by the exam. In the Engine module, for example, everything from component locations to diagnostics is covered. And in the Brake module, apprentices get to go over brake symptoms and the parts they correlate to, inspection routines, and more.

In addition to in-depth preparation on theory and practical application, flexibility and convenience are at the heart of the course. For this reason, training takes place from 8am – 12pm on Saturdays. Each module takes 16 hours to complete, for a total of 64 hours of training. This allows apprentices to prepare for the exam in less than 6 months, with minimal disruption to their schedule.
