The World’s Most Amazing Car Collections

What do The Sultan of Brunei, Jerry Seinfeld and Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts have in common? If you said they’re all quite wealthy, you’d be correct, but missing a huge fact. They all chose (and still choose) to spend their riches amassing truly incredible car collections.

Here are just six people auto sales college graduates would probably love to meet:

The Sultan of Brunei

Not only does Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei enjoy collecting cars, he is someone auto makers will custom-design vehicles for just as tailors will custom design suits – only way more expensive. His collection of over 7,000 cars includes some models that were only produced one time, specifically for him, including his Cicero BDB Maestro.

Charlie Watts

Charlie Watts probably doesn’t need an automotive service technician. While the legendary drummer for The Rolling Stones does have quite an impressive car collection, he doesn’t drive or even have a licence to do so. Instead, he has custom jackets made for each car which he wears when sitting in them and just listening to the engine sounds.

Jerry Seinfeld

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld loves cars. He even created a web series called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which showcases some beautiful cars. As a private collector, Porsche is clearly Seinfeld’s favourite. Apparently he owns 47 of them, some of them quite vintage.

In one episode of his web show, he went for a spin in a Porsche with another person on this list:

Jay Leno

Former Tonight Show host Jay Leno is very open about his car collection which features vintage pieces like his 1906 Stanley Steamer and new models. He talks about it in the media and has put out a series of videos giving people a virtual visit with his collection. Instead of keeping cars just for show, and status, he drives them around town. His garage has a maintenance shop with staff. Could you imagine graduating from auto technician training and becoming Jay Leno’s personal mechanic?

Wyclef Jean

Musician and former politician Wyclef Jean has quite the car collection. It includes a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado and a Hummer. While a Hummer might not seem like that much of a collectible, this one has an actual aquarium in it that Jean had installed.

Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani

Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani is the wealthiest man in India. He also lives in what could very well be the most expensive house in the world. It has a name, Antilla, a staff of 600, a private helipad and a six storey car garage. That’s just enough room to house the 168 cars in his private collection, including the $300,000 Maybach 62.

What cars would you focus on collecting, if you could? Tell us about it in the comments.
