Why the Automobili Estrema Fulminea is the Luxury EV to Watch in Automotive School

The EV market is exploding with plenty of old and new manufacturers entering the market. One such new entrant is Italian manufacturer, Automobili Estrema. The automaker is looking to break the Nurburgring Nordschleife EV lap record with its new hypercar, the Fulminea. Directly translated from Italian to mean ‘lightning.’ This hypercar is one you’ll want to keep your eye on during automotive school.

It Packs A Mean Horsepower Punch

The Fulminea is estimated to produce 1.5 megawatts of power going through its four electric motors. With over 2000 horsepower, the car can accelerate from 0-320 km/h in just under 10 seconds. These are just some of the mind-blowing numbers that surround the Automobili Estrema Fulminea. With these staggering performance numbers, the company is looking to take the Fulminea to the Nurburgring Nordschleife and top the EV lap record.

The record is held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo S at just over 7.5 minutes. With the Fulminea’s performance numbers, it seems destined to beat the Porsche’s time quite convincingly. The car can also deploy more boost through the ultracapacitors, further increasing performance and acceleration. Once you become a hybrid and electric vehicle mechanic, you’ll better understand just what this car is capable of–perhaps you’ll even have the opportunity to work on one during your career!

Hybrid and Electrical Vehicle Mechanics Will Be Impressed With Its Weight

EVs are known to weigh a lot due to the battery packers and engineering needed to make an EV run. However, the Fulminea defies this to some extent. The car weighs approximately 1500 kg. This is significantly lower than other EV hypercars, such as the Rimac Nevera which weighs 2150 kg. Lower weight means greater agility and the potential for  better performance. The Fulminea certainly uses the potential for extra power and produces an impressive 500 Watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg) ratio.

The battery technology in the Fulminea is sure to intrigue you as a hybrid and electric vehicle mechanic.

The weight-saving done on this car can be primarily attributed to the hybrid battery system that they plan on using. The car also utilizes modern lightweight carbon fibre to help further keep the weight down. The hybrid battery pack is centred around cell-to-pack technology, meaning that it is made up of prismatic solid-state and lithium-ion cells. This helps to reduce both the size and weight of the battery packs. During hybrid and electrical mechanic training you may learn about the different battery types and their strengths and weaknesses. In the case of the Fulminea, you can learn about a hybrid battery system that is both light and efficient.

Charging Time for the Fulminea is Impressive

The car is capable of recharging quickly due to its smaller battery size. Using a high-powered charger may allow for the battery to recharge from 10% to about 80% in approximately 10 minutes in certain instances. During your training, you will learn about charging and EV batteries, and how different systems work to increase range. The Fulminea has good range and charging capabilities, even though it has a smaller battery.

A 520-kilometer range is predicted for the Automobili Estrema Fulminea. At first glance that might not seem impressive in comparison to a typical EV because ranges for hypercar EVs are predicted to be similar. This is, however, achieved through the aforementioned battery technology which helps keep weight and size down while allowing for good range.
