Vancouver Auto Show + EV Project Launch | Automotive Training Centre
April 20, 2012
The 92nd Vancouver International Auto Show is back at the all-new BC Place from April 3-8, 2012, and the event is looking to showcase the revitalization and continued growth of the industry (an industry may thought was on its death bed just a few years ago).
The Auto Show will featured the very latest from renowned brands like BMW, Mercedes Benz and Porsche, but will also highly some of the most coveted vehicles in the SuperCars and Luxury Lane displays. Visitors will also have a chance to see
- New propulsion technologies from manufacturers
- The latest truck models and technology
- Aftermarket exhibits in the commercial Marketplace
As we’ve mentioned, visitors to the Vancouver Auto Show will also have a chance to enter the 3rd annual 2012 Dream Car Lottery, which offers a grand-prize of two luxury BMWs (the X5 diesel and Z4 28i roadster). Don’t miss it!
EV Trial Launched
The City of Vancouver (with the help of the federal and provincial governments, BC Hydro, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)) has launched an electric vehicle (EV) trial.
The trial, called “Charge and Go Vancouver” will involve installing 67 Level I (110-volt) and Level II (240-volt) EV charging stations throughout the city. The installations are said to be in place by the end of 2013, with an estimated cost of $800,000.
The locations of the charging stations will be determined by site suitability, with prices for public charging varying on location. The goal, obviously, will be to encourage the use of EVs. This trial will also be a way to gather data for future installations, particularly when it comes to how and where stations should be installed, and how they should be used, powered and maintained.
“As Vancouver strives to become the greenest city in the world by 2020, we need to ensure the city’s infrastructure will support and accelerate the shift towards lower carbon transportation options such as electric vehicles,” said Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. “This pilot is another significant step forward toward our goal of supporting sustainable transportation options for all Vancouver residents.”
This comes hot on the heels of news that the Karma is coming to Vancouver, which again bodes well for an exciting offshoot of the automotive industry and job market. Continued support for technological advances will continue to ensure that BC is a leader in the automotive industry, with increased job opportunities for individuals with auto sales and leasing training and automotive service technician certification.
