If you are passionate about automobiles, you probably want to discover everything that you can about automotive culture. There are many ways you can do that. For example, after a long day of learning about hydraulic systems, wheel alignment, and electrical fundamentals, you can kick up your feet and watch some classic car films!
There’s no shortage of great car films to choose from and any list is bound to stir up some controversy. But to get you started, here are some car movies that we think are especially worth watching.
Want to Become a Mechanic? You Must Watch Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie pair up in this fast-paced action flick about a retired master car-thief who is tasked with stealing 50 high-profile vehicles in a ridiculously short time period or suffer some pretty terrible consequences. Car fans will love this one because of the incredible driving sequences, but also because of the countless automobiles featured. Perhaps the most memorable one, nicknamed “Eleanor,” is a 1967 Ford Shelby GT500. Although the critical reception for Gone in 60 Seconds was average at best, it remains a must watch for auto enthusiasts.
Auto Freaks Will Know About the Fast & Furious (2001-2019) Franchise
You will undoubtedly have heard of this next one as it is must-see viewing for any car fanatic who wants to become a mechanic! The Fast & Furious franchise released its first film in 2001 and has since gone on to produce eight in total, with more on the way. The Fast & Furious super-series features an all-star cast including Hollywood household names like Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, and Paul Walker (who, sadly, passed away in 2013).
The films take us from the underbelly of illegal street-racing, to Tokyo’s drift-racing circuit, to stories of international crime and intrigue. Featuring supercharged, modified vehicles ranging from American muscle cars like the Ford Mustang to Japanese sportscars like the Nissan Skyline, this high-octane franchise has wheels and deals that are sure to entertain.
Which Car Film Was Awarded Six Oscars? Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

If you haven’t seen it yet, this is what you need to know: the movie is pretty much a two-hour long car chase! Filmed in the desert of Namibia, the army of War Boys pursues Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy on their war rigs, dirt bikes, and monster trucks.
