Why Pros with Automotive Careers Are Taking Note of the Ultra-Sustainable GFG Sibylla Concept Car
As we move into an era when fully electrified EVs (Electric Vehicles) are increasingly common on our roads, it makes sense that cutting-edge concept developers will push EV designs to the limit. GFG’s Sibylla, as unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, is one example of where EV design may go in the luxury sphere. It features an information-focussed new interior layout, impressive body design, and a hugely powerful battery pack. It all has automotive professionals more than a little excited about what the future might hold.
Steeped in Heritage That Grads of Automotive Schools Will Enjoy
The Sibylla is a creation distilled from the mind of Italdesign founder Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was dreamed up by Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio at their new design house, GFG Style. Giugiaro has a design pedigree that few in the industry can match, with the Italdesign firm designing such landmark vehicles as the DeLorean DMC-12, the Volkswagen Golf Mk1, and the Lotus Esprit S1. His impact on the automotive industry was solidified in 1999 when he was named the Car Designer of the Century.
Here’s a closer look at the Sibylla’s design, as shown at the Geneva Motor Show:
Energy Exchange at the Heart of a Very Modern Vehicle
The Sibylla does its part to help do away with the lingering concept of anemic EVs. Through a partnership with Chinese producer Envision, it boasts four electric motors (one for each wheel) and an output of 536 hp, being able to go from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. With a top speed of just over 200 km/h and a range of 450 km, the Sibylla delivers solid performance specs that may impress grads of automotive schools.
However, what makes the car truly revolutionary has to do with how it charges. One of the key challenges to widespread EV adoption is that if everyone had an EV, and they all decided to charge their cars at the same time—say, after they came home after a long day at work—that energy demand could overload energy grids. Cities would have difficulty accommodating such sharp spikes in demand. It’s why the Sibylla takes a different approach. This EV comes equipped with smart technology that allows it to choose when it charges, allowing it to charge when infrastructure is best ready to accommodate it. It can also connect to a vast network of solar panels and wind farms, so that all the energy it uses is squeaky clean. In addition, this handy EV can even give up some of its charge if needed to power nearby cars or devices. This give-and-take power aspect is truly the car’s standout feature.
Pros with Automotive Careers Will Love the Sibylla’s Luxurious Interior & Exterior
The transition Giugiaro made from the sharp, straight lines of the 1980s to softer, more blended modern designs is evident in the Sibylla, which nonetheless makes several nods to the past. From the striking, bull-horn style steering wheel, to the arcing, glass-dominated profile of the vehicle (which echoes Giugario’s Chevrolet Testudo body but features no A-pillar), pros with automotive careers will note how the Sibylla strikes a balance between classic design and the latest technical elements.
Inside the Sibylla, it’s clear that no corners have been cut in terms of the driver and passenger experience. By removing the blind-spots associated with traditional A-pillar designs, the driver has an impressive and unbroken 180 degree viewpoint. Push-thumb options built into the unique, ergonomically-designed steering wheel ease the control experience. In addition, a mounted tablet display on the centre-console and a large, high-quality graphic interface help to luxuriously communicate key stats and energy management figures to drivers.
Complete with gull-wing doors and all the interior elements you would expect from a world-class Italian designer, the Sibylla is a dream concept for budding energy gurus.
