This month, Bentley officially revealed the Bentayga—its first-ever production SUV. Not only is this one of the most luxurious SUVs in the world, but the British automaker also claims it’s the fastest.

Auto-lovers likely know that until now, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S held the record for fastest SUV. However, this will change when Bentley’s Bentayga hits roads in 2017 boasting a top speed of 301 km/h.

“The Bentayga is truly the Bentley of SUVs,” stated chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, Wolfgang Dürheimer. “It redefines luxury in the SUV sector and offers a genuine Bentley experience in any environment, thanks to a combination of unparalleled attention to detail, go-anywhere ability and cutting-edge technology. With this extraordinary car we are looking forward to an exciting period of strong growth and sales success for Bentley. The Bentayga is the next step in our brand’s bold future.”

The Bentayga’s Engine is Sure to Impress Pros with Auto Mechanic Training

If you are training to become a mechanic, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on the Bentayga’s impressive and powerful engine. The SUV boasts a massive 6.0 liter twin-turbo powered W12 that packs 663 lb-ft of torque. The SUV produces 600 horsepower, and can go from 0 to 60mph (0-97km/h) in just 4 seconds.

Bentley reports that the new W12 will work with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Students pursuing auto mechanic training might be interested in learning that the Bentayga’s engine has the following features:

  • direct and indirect injection
  • cylinder deactivation between 5th and 8th gear
  • stop/start coasting mode

When a driver releases the gas pedal between 5th and 8th gear, the Bentayga will automatically drop the engine into idle and allow the car to coast. When the throttle is reapplied, the transmission reengages.

Aside from being powerful and innovative, the Bentayga will also be fuel efficient. The British automaker claims that it will be able to get approximately 6 km/l on city roads and 8.5 km/l on the highway—any professional who has completed an auto mechanic apprenticeship knows this is quite impressive for an SUV with 600hp.

Inside the Bentayga: Luxury Meets Advanced Automotive Technology

The Bentayga’s interior is made of hand-crafted leather and has both wood and metal trim. The vehicle’s infotainment system is displayed on an 8-inch screen and has a 60GB hard drive. Additionally, rear passengers will be entertained by a removable 10-inch Android tablet with built-in 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

All of the SUV’s seats are adjustable and offer heating, ventilation and massage functions. The Bentayga is available in 17 exciting exterior colours and customers can also choose from 15 shades of leather and carpeting and 7 types of wood veneers.

The SUV is spacious enough to accommodate long journeys and road-trips, and even has a refrigerator in the trunk, so drinks and snacks can be kept cool until consumed.

More information regarding additional features and pricing will be revealed when Bentley unveils its Bentayga to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
