Koenigsegg Agera One:1 Like a Rocketship

It’s getting harder and harder to drum up surprise and awe when car companies unveil a new concept car these days – we’re not as easily shocked or impressed as we once were by technological advancements. The industry grows by leaps and bounds every year, so when we’re hit with a barrage of new cars, we’re definitely enamoured and interested, but it’s not like we’re completely in awe.

However, Swedish “hypercar” manufacturer Koenigsegg has just release an automobile – if you can even call it that – that seems to be straight out of a science fiction novel, and it’s got the whole automotive world in a tizzy. So what’s so revolutionary about it, and is it going to be putting anyone who’s an automotive technician in a frenzy?

The Koenigsegg Agera One:1

Koenigsegg’s newest offering is the futuristic bombshell dubbed the “Agera One:1,” and this hypercar is just about as space-age as a rocketship. The company claims that the vehicle delivers an astounding megawatt of power – that’s about 1341 horsepower – and it attains a one-to-one power to weight ratio (hence the name.) This would technically not make it a hypercar, but rather the world’s first “megacar.”

It is equipped with wild, sci-fi features like “variable geometry turbos,” as well as a 3D-printed titanium exhaust – how’s that for futuristic? The insanely chic and super suave exterior bears more resemblance to a space craft than it does most automobiles, with wild curves and eye-popping metallic automotive painting.

Under the Hood

The space-age megacar is powered by twin-turbocharged, 5.0-liter V8 with a seven-speed dual-clutch manual transmission. It’s said to produce a stunning 2 Gs of cornering capability when using road-legal tires, this means that the car is much more suited as a track car than just for garnering massive speeds. The car sends telemetry data from the car’s chassis to an iPhone app using a 3G signal, and can even predict the road ahead using a high-tech GPS. Your auto technician would lose his mind being able to get a good look under the hood of this crazy car.

Check out a preview of it at this year’s Geneva Motor Show!

The futuristic roadster is said to be able to reach speeds of up to a mind-rattling 440 km/h, having been proven through frequent simulations. This would technically mean that it would beat the current record for the fastest car in the world in the Guinness Book of World Records, however since there are only six of these bad boys that will ever be made and they’ve all already been pre-sold, we’re guessing it might not be firing into the record books any time soon.

So while this incredibly forward-thinking car isn’t quite going to be a mass-market item, and it’s very unlikely you’ll ever grace your eyes on one, let alone own one, the leaps and bounds being made by Koenigsegg are absolutely inspiring. This car will pave the way for a whole new generation of speed and control.
