When writing your resume it may be tempting to try to squish everything you’ve ever done into the maximum length of two pages. However, this is not a good idea. A recent study used eye-tracking technology to observe the way recruiters’ eyes travel on a resume, and found that recruiters only spent an average of 6 seconds scanning each one. The study also found that resumes with thick blocks of text caused the reader to stop earlier, while resumes with concise bullet points had recruiters scanning further through the document.
When writing your service advisor resume, make sure to organize information clearly. Only use a maximum of two different fonts, and keep the formatting simple so that it’s easy to read.
#2: Future Service Advisors Take Note, Accomplishments Are Best
Often, inexperienced resume writers will list off their duties at past jobs. For example, they may write “I was responsible for cleaning, safety, and end of day duties.” Unfortunately, hiring managers see hundreds of resumes and often already know the duties a job entails. Instead, use action words and specific accomplishments to describe how you excelled. For example, the above example could be turned into “Actively maintained a clean work space that resulted in three passed safety inspections in a row, with an average score of 98%”. Providing clear examples shows the employer you can achieve results.

#3: Customize Your Resume to Each Service Advisor Job You Apply To
One misconception job applicants often have is that once they craft a perfect resume, its one size fits all from there. However, this is not true. It is important to customize your resume to each individual job listing you apply for.
Start by reading the company’s mission, vision, and values and think about how your qualities align with them. Use similar language as the job listing and company website. For example, if they are a very formal company, use formal language throughout your resume. Additionally, the company might list the aptitudes it expects candidates to have and duties they’ll perform. By clearly mentioning them in your resume, you’ll show that you have what it takes to do the job well.
