What is the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program?
The absence of adequate charging and refuelling infrastructure has been identified as one of the key factors militating against the popular adoption of Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs.) To address this challenge, the Canadian government aims to increase the availability of localized charging and hydrogen refuelling opportunities in areas where Canadian citizens typically interact.
The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program is to be championed and marshalled by Pollution Probe and will run until March 31, 2023. The program aims to support the establishment of between 500 and 600 new charging sites in eligible locations around Canada, including public places, workplaces, multi-unit residential buildings, light-duty vehicle fleets, and streets.
Pollution Probe will handle the distribution of funding, which will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Selected projects will receive rebates of up to 50% of the purchase and installation costs of EV charging stations.
Who’s Eligible For this Program?
Nonprofit and for-profit organizations legally registered in Canada qualify as direct recipients of the program, while provincial, regional, and municipal governments or their institutions qualify as delivery organizations. Funding will be determined by the proposed type of infrastructure and its projected output.
On the other hand, private individuals, federal government departments, and owners of single-family homes are excluded from eligibility. This means that auto businesses may have access to this grant.
