Future Automotive Maintenance Technicians, Check Out the 2017 Chevy Bolt
October 5, 2016
A new electric vehicle (EV) is about to shake up the automotive industry. Rolling in after the success of the Chevrolet Volt, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is sure to be promising—especially considering that the Volt was named 2016 Green Car of the Year. The competitive landscape for EVs is still quite limited. However, the new Bolt is set to rival famous competitors like Tesla with a range that exceeds 300 kilometers in just one charge, as well as an affordable price tag to boot.
If you’re interested in an auto maintenance career, read on to discover more about this exciting release.
Automotive Maintenance Technicians Should Be Excited About this Brand New Electric Vehicle
There are many reasons why the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt is generating so much excitement. Boasting more kilometers per charge than any other affordable option, it’s sure to make a splash when it hits markets later this year.
This crossover has everything an automotive maintenance technician would expect from a regular, gas powered vehicle—except that it’s fully electric. It’s spacious, fitting five people comfortably, and has ample storage space including retractable back seats and hidden storage compartments. The Bolt isn’t lacking in the technology department either with surround cameras and radar; it even has blind spot, rear, and forward collision alerts. It also comes equipped with features like 4G LTE Wi-Fi. All this and it fully charges at home in just nine hours!
Automotive Maintenance Technicians Will Be Impressed by the Bolt’s Specs
A full at home charge in nine hours and a range of 300 km aren’t the only impressive specs the Chevrolet Bolt has to offer. Drivers will get approximately 40 kilometres of driving range per hour of charge, meaning that even with just a quick recharge they can still get pretty far.
The body is made of steel and aluminum, weighing in at approximately 3,580 pounds. That light weight helps the Bolt keep its impressive driving range, and contributes to its performance too. The Bolt offers 200hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. It’s also capable of getting from zero to one hundred km/h in fewer than eight seconds. Not bad for a moderately priced EV!
Automotive Maintenance Technicians Can Look Forward to Plenty of Innovation
If you want to become a mechanic, you might already know that EVs have made big strides over the last few years. In fact, GM’s CEO Mary Barra has made the bold claim that “I have no doubt that the auto industry will change more in the next five to 10 years than it has in the last 50.” She made that claim when unveiling the Bolt, which is a fitting comment considering the plans Chevrolet and its parent company GM have for this EV.
The Bolt will likely be used as a testing ground for new up-and-coming car tech like autonomous driving, and even car sharing apps. It’ll also act as tough competition for Tesla, and may drive up EV sales as these cars become ever more affordable. If you’re interested in the future of the car industry, this is definitely one car to keep an eye on. Its success could mean that you might see more and more EVs throughout your career once you become a mechanic.
