How to Create a Perfect Home Study Space for Online Automotive Training

For many people, working and studying from home is the ideal situation. There is no commute, so you might get a little more sleep, or maybe you’ll save a little money by having lunch at home. For others, it takes a little more effort to enjoy the benefits of learning and working from home. If you’re in that second camp, don’t worry!

As most automotive students are used to the idea of being in the shop to do their training, we understand you might be wondering how to make the most of your online automotive course. For this reason, we’ve created a guide to get you started. You’ll be surprised at how much you are able to achieve from the comfort of your own home as you pursue your career in this industry.

Pick One Study Space for Automotive Training and Keep it Organized

We know this can be easier said than done in some cases. If you have an office space with a desk, take some time to organize it. Make sure there’s an outlet for your laptop, pens and paper if you need them, and good WiFi.

If there are books and papers around that you do not need for your coursework, move them to another space. If you do not have a dedicated workspace in which to do your auto service college coursework, that’s okay.

Keeping your workspace organized may take a few minutes when you sit down, but it’s worth it

Whether you use your kitchen table, a shared table, or a makeshift desk, you can make it work. It is more important that you take time to keep the workspace organized and use the same workspace each time you study. Regularity and routine will help reduce distractions from changing spots and trying to adjust to get focused each time you sit down to study.

Leave Your Phone Out of Reach

One study found that we look at our phones about 52 times a day. Another estimated that we “tap, swipe, and click” about 2,600 times a day. The online instructor-led courses we offer for those looking for careers in the auto industry are engaging and interactive, but it might be helpful to take a phone break in order to fully concentrate.

Leave your phone out of reach or in another room, so it is out of sight and out of mind. If you keep your study space distraction-free, you will enjoy catching up with your notifications even more after you complete a good study session’s work.

Make Your Study Space Comfortable

Take a moment to figure out what you need to be comfortable. This starts with furniture. Make sure your chair is comfortable and the right height for your desk or tabletop. Comfort also includes things like light and noise. If your household has a lot going on, it may help to line up some instrumental music or ambient noise you can listen to through headphones.

If you work at night, set up a lamp to keep your eyes comfortable and your brain awake

It’s also important to make sure you have enough light in your workspace, so you are not straining your eyes. Finally, don’t get too comfortable! You still want to be focused and alert as you engage with courses and instructors online.
