Reports over the years have shown that Canadians have a special attachment to certain car models. Classics such as the Ford F-Series and Honda Civic remain popular, and new reports are showing that Canadian car buyers aren’t changing their habits too much in 2015.
What this signifies is that car enthusiasts and professionals all over Canada will be seeing a lot more of these models rolling out of dealerships and onto the streets. For professionals working as mechanics, sales representatives, detailers and more, these top sellers will make up the bulk of the cars they’ll be working with.
For students looking to become auto technicians in Surrey and across the country, knowing which cars are big sellers this year will help give a good indication of which cars you’ll be working on once you graduate.
Read on to find out the top four best selling cars of 2015, so far.
1. Canadians Love Their Ford F-Series Trucks
The Ford F-150’s new, revolutionary aluminum body was a gamble, but that gamble has paid off. The F-150’s lightweight aluminum body sheds an impressive 700 pounds per truck, and Canadians can’t get enough of it.
Thanks to that weight loss, Ford says car buyers can expect better fuel economy to the tune of 5-20% better than last year.
Canada’s best-selling pickup for 49 years has been holding the top spot in sales this year. And, even though 2015 isn’t over yet, it’s looking like the title of best-selling vehicle might deservedly go to the Ford F-Series.
2. Ram Pickup is Tailing Closely Behind
While the Ram Pickup has always seemed to live in the shadow of the F-Series, it’s holing its own and gaining ground this year. It enjoyed record sales in January, February, and March – making its first quarter go up almost a full ten percent compared to 2014 figures. Even with the F-Series gains of 5.4%, the 9.7% increase in Ram sales is closing the gap between the two competitors.
By May, Ram was only 975 units behind the F-150, making car reviewers and professionals in auto careers wonder if we are witnessing the end of the Ford F-Series era of domination.
3. Honda Civic
Canada’s best-selling car for 17 years had a disappointing start to 2015, when sales sank by 15.7% in the first quarter.
Sales bumped up in April, and so time will tell if the rest of 2015 boosts sales back up to 2014 levels. The Honda Civic’s status as a top safety pick has always worked as a strong selling point to consumers, and the 2015 model has even been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
4. GMC Sierra
The Sierra has made the leap from 8th place this time last year all the way up to 4th. Paired up with its identical twin, the Chevrolet Silverado, sales of the two pickups combined would probably topple the F-Series. Counted separately, though, they’re still faring well. If you’re looking to become a mechanic, then you can expect to see a lot more of the GMC Sierra if sales stay strong.
