BMW vs Mercedes: Which Brand do Pros With Careers in the Auto Industry Like Best?
May 26, 2017
People love their expensive German cars, with BMW and Mercedes topping the wish lists of many auto enthusiasts looking for a refined, high-end automobile. Of course, that begs the question of which one is best.
Ardent admirers of both brands will throw out all kinds of reasons why their favourite is best, ranging from brand history to road testing results, and in truth, both sides have a point—their brand of choice is pretty great!
So, let’s refine the question a bit. Which do professionals in the auto industry like best? Maybe unsurprisingly, it’s still a tough call. Here’s a look at why.
After Auto Service College, You Might See BMWs Are Safe, Efficient, & Great for Driving
BMW does really well on a lot of performance tests, often scoring in the top brands for handling, acceleration, braking, and other key areas. Among professionals, BMW is considered to be particularly strong in the small car and SUV categories, and a match for Mercedes for luxury midsize automobiles. BMW vehicles also get great scores for safety, which is no small thing.
To top it all off, some BMW cars, the like M3 Coupe, are known to retain their value pretty well, making them an excellent option for consumers who want to resell after a few years. Overall, there’s a strong case to be made that BMW is the best choice for overall brand strength and value, which counts for a lot. After auto service college, you can easily justify pointing to the BMW as being better than Mercedes.
Mercedes Performs Really Well, Too—And Brings a Little More Luxury to the Table
Though BMW outperforms Mercedes in some key performance areas, it’s important to note that the difference between the two brands isn’t so big—Mercedes gets some great scores for performance, too. Importantly, it beats out BMW in the luxury large car category, which is, for fans of high-end cars, often the category that matters most.
Mercedes cars are also known to offer a high level of comfort on the interior of the car, which is pretty important when it comes to higher-end models. Their instrument and information panels are top-quality, easily navigable, and functional. Exceptionally high-quality leather, along with lots of tasteful metal finish, is the norm inside of a Mercedes, which adds to the high-end feel that so many fans of cars crave.
For all of these reasons, it shouldn’t be a surprise when professionals with careers in the auto industry claim Mercedes beats out BMW as the brand of choice for people who love luxury.
Ultimately, because it’s so tough to say whether BMW or Mercedes is better, it’s probably best to make the evaluation on a case by case basis. Of course, if you have your own opinion about which one is best, nobody will fault you for sharing your perspective—you’ll have plenty of justification on either side of the debate!
