If you’re planning to pursue an auto mechanic career, you’ll definitely want to learn more about this brand-new Jeep Cherokee! Read on to find out what this vehicle is packing under its hood, and which other standard features you can expect it to have.
1. Buyers Choice: Jeep Will Offer 2 Engine Options with Its New Overland
With its Cherokee Overland, Jeep decided to stick to a method that’s familiar, offering drivers the choice between two engines—both of which are available on other Cherokee models.
The Overland will come standard with the automaker’s 2.4-litre MultiAir four-cylinder engine. Experts who have had auto mechanic training know that this particular engine produces 184 horsepower and 171-pound-feet of torque.
As an alternate option, buyers can opt for Jeep’s 3.2-litre Pentastar V6 engine, which puts out 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. In either case, the Overland will feature the company’s most common 9-speed automatic transmission.
2. Active Drive II 4WD: A System That will Impress Any Automotive Mechanic
Jeep’s new drive system stays true to the brand’s reputation for its 4×4 reliability. The Overland will come with standard front wheel drive, but drivers who might want to hit the trails can opt for the optional Active Drive II 4WD system.
The Active Drive II 4WD system includes a two-speed transfer case that sends power to the front and rear axles in both low and high ranges. If you get the chance to work on a 2016 Overland during your automotive career, you’ll notice that the rear axle might not have as much wear as other 4x4s. This is because the Active Drive system automatically disconnects power from the rear axle when the vehicle isn’t locked in 4WD mode, which makes for improved durability and fuel economy.
3. Jeep’s New Overland Boasts Many Standard Luxury and Safety Features
While the Overland’s sleek exterior design and powerful engine options are no doubt impressive, it’s the car’s luxurious interior that helps it stand out from other Cherokee models. The vehicle will feature fully-adjustable leather seats with 4-way lumbar support, and both heating and cooling options. Additionally, sophisticated wood trim and a stylish leather-wrapped steering wheel can be found inside the Overland.
To pair with its premium Alpine sound system, the Overland will also come with Fiat Chrysler’s recognizable Uconnect infotainment system. This system features an 8.4 inch screen, and comes with a preset memory function, HD radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and GPS navigation.
The Overland is also full of active and passive safety tech. Some of the most notable features include 10 air bags to keep passengers safe, automatic headlights and a backup camera. It will also come with collision warning and brake assist, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and active cruise control with full stop-and-go capabilities.
Car lovers and aspiring automotive professionals can expect to see the 2016 Overland this spring when it goes on sale.
