The new 12th generation Toyota Corolla is a car worth noting if you like to keep up with auto news. And with very little changed since 2013, it was time for it to get an update.

Auto repair is a field that could allow you to work on some cool cars, which is an exciting prospect for anyone who feels passionate about automotive innovation. So, what does the new Corolla have to offer? Without skimping on its reputation for affordability, safety, and practicality, the new Corolla manages to include a few interesting features. Here’s a look at what has some auto enthusiasts talking.

Three Corolla 2020 Model Lines that You May Encounter in an Auto Repair Career

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling cars in the world, which makes it a common car to work on after completing an auto mechanic apprenticeship. So, what are you likely to see if you encounter the 2020 model? To start with, the Toyota Corolla 2020 comes in three model lines: the L Line, S Line, and Hybrid.

Within the L model line, the base L, LE, and XLE trims can be upgraded with a moonroof and triple J LED headlights. The engine is the 1.8-litre four-cylinder, first introduced in 1998 for the 8th generation model and now updated to have more output and a 7 hp bump to bring it up to 139 hp.

The sporty S model line includes the SE and XSE trims, which have lip and rear spoilers, a chrome dual tip exhaust, paddle shifters, and sport seats. The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine offers 169 hp. Its sport-tuned suspension is firmer and lets drivers feel the road a little more. In addition, the SE is available equipped with either a CVT or a manual transmission.

The third and perhaps most notable option is the Hybrid, available in the affordable LE trim. Similar to a Prius, with some changes in body shape, suspension, and software, this trim allows Toyota to further spread its hybrid technology, available in over 90 countries and regions. Instead of lithium ion, these cars use less complex, nickel-metal hybrid batteries, keeping costs down.

TNGA Explained, for Those Interested in an Auto Mechanic Apprenticeship

The new Corolla also makes use of TNGA. Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) is the carmaker’s new body architecture, and is essentially meant to improve the performance of the essential parts of the car. It’ll soon be applied to all of Toyota’s cars and crossovers, making it quite prevalent for those interested in careers in the auto industry.

TNGA eliminates most of the past reasons not to buy a Toyota, by making the driving and riding experience smoother. The technology replaces the torsion beam rear suspension with a multilink setup. It also creates a lower centre of gravity and 60 percent more body rigidity, in addition to decreasing chassis friction for a nicer driving experience. The car is given a more planted feel, without a lot of noise from wind or tires. It also possesses quite a degree of agility, making for a fun drive.

The Corolla 2020 Stays in its Lane

The Toyota Corolla branding encompasses safety, durability, and affordability. Rather than trying to create a premium or powerful model, the redesigned Corolla stays in its lane as a great entry-level car that is durable and safe.

Owner loyalty is huge for Toyota, with many drivers who own a Corolla as their first car choosing to stick with another Toyota for their next purchase. With the Corolla including Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 2.0, with features like lane departure alert and automatic high beam, Toyota stays loyal to its values with this car.
