A day in the life of an auto body repair technician is constantly on the move. A general work day may include five oil changes, a few car services, a check engine light diagnosis, replacing a headlight bulb, and tire rotations. These are the most common tasks, but your days could also include more intricate tasks like replacing fenders or doing body work after collisions. Other times, you might spend a whole day working on one car, if the car needs a ton of repairs. This can be great as you develop a bit of a relationship with the vehicle while you’re working on it.

Seasoned auto mechanic Frank Buckner, who is the owner and operator of Buck’s Automotive and Buck’s Fuel and Service, offers a glimpse into what this rewarding career path can look like. ‘Buck’ worked in garages and in race car garages after obtaining his certification, then later went on to found Buck’s Automotive and Buck’s Fuel & Service in 1978. One of the things Buck gets most excited about is working on classic cars, as he explains his favourite one to work on was a 56′ Chevy Bel Air. It just goes to show that auto body technician careers can take you to a variety of different places within the auto body sector, from race cars to classics.
